The Environmental Sciences Association of Ireland is an organization which is a networking tool for environmental professionals in Ireland. 



Cré the Composting Association of Ireland is a non for profit organisation which serves as a forum to promote composting and compost utilisation. The overall responsibility for running the association is by our Board. Daily management is by the Association Chair, Association Treasurer (both positions voluntary) and Executive Administrator (full time staff).

The association has over 90 members from local authorities, private companies, compost producers, colleges, equipment suppliers and consultants.

Cré is the Irish word for ‘Earth'. The Cré mission statement is:

  • To promote composting and compost utilisation in Ireland;
  • The Association's function is to infuse best practices into the development of an industry;
  • Promote public awareness;
  • Promote research; and
  • Develop of an information storehouse on composting and compost utilisation

Cré provides an informative website (www.cre.ie), frequent newsletters, position papers, submissions on forthcoming legislation, policy, and strategy, training (Cré - Institute of Technology FAS - Certificate in Compost Facility Operation & Brown Bin Training Course), regular themed meetings with site visits, an annual conference and has frequent meetings with the regulators. 



The Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) is the professional body representing over 6,000 waste management professionals. The CIWM sets the professional standards for individuals working in the waste management industry.

The Institution has its Headquarters in Northampton, UK and also operates ten Regional Centres. The Republic of Ireland Centre managed by a locally elected Centre Council runs an active programme of events for local members in support of the overall aims and objectives of the Institution:

  • Advancing the scientific, technical and practical aspects of wastes management for the safeguarding of the environment
  • Promoting education, training, research and the dissemination of knowledge in all matters of wastes management
  • Striving to achieve and maintain the highest standards of practice, competence and conduct by all its members

The Irish Waste Management Association (IWMA), which is affiliated to the Irish Business and Employers Confederation (IBEC, www.ibec.ie), is the recognised national representative body for the waste management industry in Ireland. The IWMA is a member of the European Federation of Waste Management and Environmental services (FEAD, www.fead.be). Cre, the Composting Association of Ireland is affiliated to the IWMA.  

Membership consists of a broad spectrum of companies involved in the collection, recycling, recovery, treatment and disposal of various hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams from urban and rural areas and providing waste management solutions for both the public and private sector. The Association aims to improve standards and promote the development of the waste management sector as a recognised, professional and well-regulated industry. 

 



The Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) is a non-for-profit membership organisation established to promote best practice standards in environmental management, auditing and assessment.
